Quoted from an e-mail i receieved from my maths prof...

"...On the Q-time problems, it is good that many of you are participating. However, please do not take it with too extreme serious-ness. There is no penalty for not doing the problems but participation would give a small bonus marks to be added to the CA on 18 October."

wow, remember the times when our teachers were forcing us to do our homework? jac, remember how msT SW used to scream at us during geog/SS class because no one did her homework?

you see, this is the kind of thing that scares me about people in my course. Q-time is a small quiz that the prof gives in the middle of the lecture regarding the stuff that he just taught to test our understanding of what he just explained.

personally what i think the main objective is just to keep everyone on their toes and not skip lectures because it's an indirect way of taking attendance. it's so darn competitive sometimes, i wonder whether i'll surivive in this kind of environment.

i question whether there's a happy medium between not doing tutorials and being "0verly-serious" for stuff. because i seem to not be seeing it. i just know i have to keep up.

people tend to me motivated over different reasons, and for sure, bonus marks in is not really one of my motivations. yet, i have no choice but to keep up with stuff for the sake of my interesting in persuing anymore acad stuff in the future -- because graduating with anything lower than 2nd upper would mean a B. Eng marks the end of my ability to formally persue knowledge. sigh...it's just this mad rush that i still can't figure out. maybe some day i will.

i don't know if others have this problem. but i find people quite tiring to be with. after being with people for a while, i need to withdraw into nothingness to relax and recharge. in fact, i think my 'equilibrium state' is being alone and chilling. while, talking to people is actually 'doing work' whereby it requires large amounts of energy.

anyways made a trip back to SN today. probably one of the last times i head back there for lots of reasons which i shall not mention again, lest i be called long-winded. unless i'm specially asked/requested to return, i'll not be going there anytime in the foreseeable future. there's just something about the place that is somewhat 'unwelcoming' (at least to me) and i think the few people i am interested to see are reachable elsewhere.

i think i stunned ASC today when she asked me to go back to help out sometime and i told her i actually wasn't free. i'm sorry, but some things have changed to the extent i can no longer identifiy with it and so i don't feel obligated to help out. although i'll try, i've got to admit i won't be trying as hard as i once would have.

hopefully i've got my focusing problem fixed to some degree...yes i strongly believe in the concept of resonance. the words of some people tend to have more effect on others for different people. the idea of driving frequency meets natural fequency of the person on the reciving end. it's exactly the same as how people of the same wavelength will understand each other (and given that wavelength is related to the frequency). if a natural frequency can be exists for all physical bodies, it's not surprising that it should exist for humans as well. so anyway, it's just great to talk to people who actually know what i'm talking about and can tolerate my nonsense...which has been exponentially increasing since i started persuing my course in uni.

it's sleeping time for me. 3am, no kidding. i didn't do much work today...but it's ok, because i think tomorrow will be an eventful day. right? haha.

got it from jac again.

So Far in 2006, I have:
[x] been in school

[ ] fallen out of love
[ ] done something you swore never to
[x] lied
[x] laughed until you cried
[ ] stole(n) something
[ ] went behind your parents back
[x] hidden a secret
[x] pretended to be happy
[ ] got arrested
[ ] kept one of your new years resolutions
[ ] forgot your new years resolution
[ ] met someone who changed your life
[ ] changed your outlook on life
[x] sat home all day doing nothing
[ ] pretended to be sick
[x] almost died
[ ] lost someone
[ ] been to the hospital
[x] gotten close to someone
[ ] streaked
[ ] cried over someone
[x] given up something important to you (more like prepared to give up something important to me if the situation requires)
[ ] talked on the phone all night
[ ] learned something new about yourself
[ ] tried something you normally wouldn't try
[x] found out who your true friends were

it's weird how when i do my work i can't seem to get my brain to settle down. yet the moment i decide to go to sleep instead i end up dreaming about whatever i didn't do. is that supposedly my non-existent conscience coming back to haunt me? seesh, the first thought when i wake up in the morning is the fluid mechanics derivation i was trying to figure out the night before. wonder how much sleep i actually had.

acad stuff aside, joe satch says he was inspired by jimi hendrix. but the more listen to the both of them, the less i see any similarities between both of them. yeah i know, being inspired in no way means you have to sound like the other person. but i guess the influences are still there to some degree.

alright need to get my act together soon. i got this pile of notes that are half-read and my O level 2004 solutions dangling at the last question together with this this week's worth of tutorials still undone. don't ask me why/how...i have no idea. just can't seem to keep with the programme.

ok off to do some gearing.

my 2nd favourite live band after U2, well...goo goo dolls! well, i'm not exactly a fan, but i respect their act...Rzenick has a great voice and plays nice guitar so yeah, he's a great musician.

anyways i went out with XW, rosa and SL today. ate mos at bugis junction (i know i've been eating a lot of mos lately, but it doesn't matter as long as the company's good). it's different from the people i know at school currently, probably goes to show engineers are generally a dead bunch of people...but nah, it's just a different wavelength altogether. and it's good to have a refreshing change of people to talk to. don't know exactly how to pinpoint what's different but it just isn't the same. and it's kind of my process of recharging my passion in my school work.

i have quite a lot to say but i lost my train of thought. maybe some other time...

we didn't play any EG in EG today. believe it or not. but it was still quite cool, spent the time doing some stuff on chain signals for effects. watched a DVD on DC's ibook and fiddled around with his wah pedal. think it ended up being some advertisement for wah pedals and how we should just invest in one that we will own for a lifetime...seesh.

the rest of the time was spent talking about how they should just close down sg idle idol. haha...hilarious talk cock session. but it sure is true, the winner will represent singapore in the global stage and it'll be quite humiliating if someone who can't sing wins...don't want to name names, but yeah...and DC says he wouldn't want to perform with whoever that person is. oh wells. on another note, we learnt that he was the one who recorded the EG for 2 of the bon jovi songs last week, must go and have a listen to it again. hmm...i have this big impression that the arrangment sucks, but that's just me and having a sucky arrangment does not mean a sucky EG part.

why we even went to that topic? cos we're going to learn STP's Plush! yeah!

Goo Goo Dolls - Cuz You're Gone Lyrics

You whispered in my mouth
And I spit you words right back
How good do you think I'll look
When the words start to break and crack?

You beat your head upon your wall
You disconnect yourself from it all
Cuz you know that you're so beautiful and so untouchable
And I want to get in so bad, and I don't know how
No, I don't know how

Cuz you're gone, and you ain't coming back
Yeah you're gone, and you ain't coming back

You held your hand so close
And I just can't push you away
I wished you could be my girl
But you're stuck in a grown up world

You beat your head upon your wall
You disconnect yourself from it all
Cuz you know that you're so beautiful and so untouchable
And I want to get in so bad, and I don't know how
No I don't know how

Cuz you're gone, and you ain't coming back
Yeah you're gone, and you ain't coming back

You beat your head upon your wall
You disconnect yourself from it all
Cuz you know that you're so beautiful and so untouchable
And I want to get in so bad, and I don't know how
And I don't know how

Cuz you're gone, and you ain't coming back
Yeah you're gone, and you ain't coming back
Yeah you're gone, and I wish you'd come back

after twisting, turning and torturing my brains for 5 days on ONE STUPID QUESTION. i finally realised there are 3 fluids in the container, NOT 2. ARGH.

and now i am behind time on my work and it's only the third week of school. i know i was sick, but still, where am i going to find time out of nowhere to catch up. this shows how i cannot afford to fall sick anymore within the next 3 years.

actually if it was just school work it would be fine, but i'm behind on the publishing stuff too. wish i had 30 hours a day. or maybe more...don't even have time to practice guitar, going to be so sucky at EG tomorrow.

i got 5 tutorials to clear by WEDNESDAY and 2 years worth of O-level solutions to write by this week. how am i not supposed to go mad? [1 year of O-level solution takes me like 2 full days to write]

sigh, is this the kind of lifestyle that i have to get used to for the next 3 years?

exerpt from my notes...on gear trains...

"clearance circle - the largest circle centred by the gear centre, which is not peneterated by the teeth of the mating gear."

is it possible for someone like me to be studying till i actually go insane? hmm...nah, i always have weird and sick thoughts just no one to share them with.

hi jac, i'm hijacking this from you. hope you don't mind. anyways, i tried to be different doing this...more honest and etc. eh i tried lah...instead of giving the usual answers. i tried to answer some of those questions i usually try to avoid. just been lazy to blog man. nothing much to say other than "i jammed today" anyways. so here goes...

-------------------------------

4 names you go by:
- jac
- jacLee
- my chinese name [which no one has used in a long time.]
- surf/surfer

4 things that scare you:
- heights [well, actually more like escalators.]
- losing my fingers/arms or injuring my shoulder [then i won't be able to play guitar anymore.]
- losing my hearing [more than losing other senses]
- finding out one day that i don't like physics anymore/don't have a certain standard in the subject anymore [sometimes it just happens and i will have a bad day]

4 of your everyday essentials:
- mobile phone
- wallet
- keys
- watch

4 things you are wearing right now [i don't know why they always ask this question - is it supposed to be some sick, kinky thing?...sorry just wondering]:
- my watch [cos my wall clock just died]
- blue giordano shirt
- berms
- [shall i say i'm wearing my com cos my brain just died?]

4 of your favorite bands or musical artists (at the moment) [shall i say these are the more stable few]:
-U2
-Matchbox Twenty
-3 doors down
-Queen

4 favorite songs (at the moment) [more like 4 that i'm currently listening to frequently]:
- Led Zepplin - Stairway to Heaven [cos i'm learning it - in parts, cos the songs's very long]
- Muse - Supermassive Blackhole [i tend to like songs with cheem-sounding titles, heh.]
- Yellowcard - Rough Landing, Holly [i find the violin to be a nice addition to rock SOMETIMES]
- Killers - All these Things that I've Done [catchy tune man!]

4 things you want in a relationship (other than real love) [i assume by 'relationship' you mean general human-human relations]:
- understanding
- truth/honesty
- no rubbishy formalities [which cannot fulfill the first point]
- loyalty [it's very important, at least to me...]

4 truths [do these have to be personal truths or just factual stuff?...i'll just go for a bit of both]:
- the earth is round, well technically... [or should i just say it isn't flat?]
- i don't like what i can't understand, implying i don't like humans in general.
- the principle of conservation of energy applies to all regions of physical existence.
- i wanted to be a doctor since a very long time ago...but i gave it up and i don't know why, i just did and sometimes i still wonder why. [no, seriously, it's one of the few things i cannot explain even to myself.]

4 physical things that appeal to you (in the opposite sex) [what, i can't even recognise people for goodness sake, how to find time to notice these stuff...to both sexes, anyways i shall TRY to answer]:
- serious interllect [see, at least i try ok!]
- [argh no, this is seriously too hard...]
-
-

4 of your favorite hobbies:
- jamming
- watching CSI
- listening to music
- watching concerts

4 things you want really badly
- the 3 guitars i listed in the previous post [gibson SG, gibson LP and Fender Strat]
- a new computer [getting to become an increasingly urgent need]
- school NOT to start [believe it or not, usually i want the exact opposite]
- better GPA next sem [not to sound like a geek, but i need to buck up]

4 places you want to go on vacation:
- cruise to nowhere [again! i like going nowhere...no stress, just eat]
- nowhere, just staying at home for a long long time.
- maybe the US [if i really have to get out of Singapore]
- anywhere in the world to catch U2 in concert!

4 things you want to do before you die:
- hopefully some great scientific breakthrough so that my work/interest will be remembered/promoted.
- understand as much of the world's and my existence as possible [not necessarily just scientifically].
- to be able to play guitar like Slash. [maybe not exactly, but reach a certain "wow" standard if you know what i mean, i want to master the instrument as much as possible]
- do something that the people who believed in me can be proud of me for...

4 ways that you are stereotypically a dude/chick [i thought 'chicks' were yellow, fluffy things that go "chip". refer: young chicken]:
- well, i'm HUMAN [sad but true]
- i'm not yellow
- i'm not fluffy
- i say other things besides "chip"/"cheap"

4 things you are thinking about now:
- if JD will mind me bringing GS later cos i didn't tell him [oops]
- "i know i'm supposed to do something, but what..."
- do i need to get some writing/editing done later?
- maybe i should make a trip to town/esplanade library later to walk one round before next week

4 stores you shop at:
- HMV/sembawang music/carrefour [to buy CDs/posters/band t-shirts]
- guitar shops e.g. Sweelee, city music, g77 [to buy guitars/FX/etc...duh.]
- NTUC [to buy loads of things]
- Kinokuniya [specifically to buy music scores]
