i'm not sure whether to be happy that my engineering exposure has proved useful in real life, to be upset that there's a very high chance i'm going to suffer a great loss, or to be pissed (?) at someone for giving me false hope...
ok that said, i wish to express a personal opinion that i have held since i attended my uncle's phD convo like 10 years ago but has struck me only recently with everyone convocating recently...
i think that the academic dress goes better with pants (regardless of whether the graduant is male/female) because it just looks weird to see 2 (might i say pale) legs sticking out of the bottom of the robe. it gives the illusion that the someone is wearing nothing underneath the robe if one looks from behind. and not to mention it looks rather sloppy which is kinda against the purpose since the academic robe is, in my opinion, supposed to show how much intellectual stuff you've gained and people should look neat and smart in it.
hmm then again, maybe it's just me. or maybe the robe is just ugly...somewhat. haha...

Beneath the noise, below the din,
I hear your voice, it's whispering,
in science and in medicine,
I was a stranger, you took me in...
