maybe it's just me or maybe not. but work seemed brighter and everyone seemed friendlier today. maybe it's just the effects of having a nice 2 days off work. i'd never get a break that long...unless public holiday approaches. sigh.

anyway just a moment of inspiration...probably just to entertain elizabeth and the other av people who read this. i thought of a way to illustrate/explain the difference between gain and fader. haha...

gain = how wide you open the gates to the monkey enclosure - determining how many monkeys you collect.

fader = how hard you squeeze those monkeys - determining how loud a volume you get.

high gain can produce 'louder' sound because there are more monkeys screaming (or screeching - depending on what sound monkeys make) at lower levels. for high fader, when you raise it it's like squeezing those monkeys harder so that they scream/screech louder.

but there's a limit to what those monkeys can do...i.e. if you put in too little gain (monkeys) then no matter how high you raise (squeeze) the 'loudness' of the sound will be restricted

...moreover, it's animal abuse.

ok off to dinner.

PS: i thank mrP from ny for the monkey inspiration...somewhat gained from his Q. mech explanations. heh.

Beneath the noise, below the din,
I hear your voice, it's whispering,
in science and in medicine,
I was a stranger, you took me in...
